Why Pilates? Originally develop by Joseph Pilates to condition and strengthen muscles, Pilates is the ultimate mind body exercise for anyone looking to realign and tone their bodies. The Pilates body is not one of bulk and restricted movement; it is a body at it agile best — long, lean, toned and trim. The exercises are perfect for all ages, fitness levels and the foundation for any exercise program. Spirit of Pilates works with each client to ensure individual’s needs and goals are taken into account during each and every session.
Pilates Philosophy Originally founded as a way to create a healthy body, a healthy mind and a healthy way of life, Pilates has evolved into lifestyle, attained through balance of the physical, mental and spiritual. Pilates exercises require people to move in accordance with their body’s structural integrity through a series controlled movements, thus restoring the body’s natural harmony.
"It’s the mind that builds the body."
Pilates Focus Pilates Concentrates on training the core muscles, improving flexibility, posture, and overall strength training through controlled flowing movements and coordinated breath. The techniques and equipment used are recognized by the health and fitness industry as being one of the safest and most effective exercise programs available today. Pilates has exploded in popularity — over 11 million people have experience the benefits.
How it Works Personal training sessions are tailored to the individual taking into account past and present fitness levels, injuries and desired goals. Each exercise is a series of movements that stretch and strengthen muscles throughout the body, releasing tension and opening the joints. By concentrating on each movement you develop the ability to coordinate your mind, body and breath in a fluid sequence.
The Core of Pilates Pilates is exceptional on its own, but it also enhances and supplements other interests. From athletes looking to gain a competitive edge to someone with an injury needing rehabilitation or someone is simply looking for low impact exercises with great results, Pilates can help. Each exercise is used as a way to stretch and move correctly in the course of one’s day and is not limited to an exercise regime. It changes the way you relate to your own body and the way you carry yourself. To see results it is recommended that Pilates be practiced 2-3 times per week.
Spirit of Pilates works with each client to ensure the body develops uniformly, corrects wrong posture, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.
At Spirit of Pilates we keep our training sessions small so that you can have a great experience! One-on-one and duet training offers the student a more concentrated and personalized workout, focusing on specific goals, and on proper form and alignment critical for exercise safety.
Based on the teachings of Joseph Pilates, each training session is a series of exercises on the Mat or Apparatus with spring-based tension. Pilates will challenge your whole body! We focus on alignment, strengthening and sculpting the body's power 'core'; abdominal muscles, lower back, thighs, buttocks and upper body while focusing on the 6 key principles. We hope you will feel invigorated, renewed and relaxed during and after your training session. We want you to look forward to your exercise!
All sessions are 55 minutes.
Private sessions are the quickest way to meet your personal goals. Each session is customized with your body, health and fitness goals in mind for optimum results and includes time spent on the Pilates equipment and mat.
These sessions are a prerequisite for understanding how to use the Pilates equipment and are ideal for individuals who require special consideration.
Semi-Private Sessions — Duets are two people with one instructor. It’s perfect for two people who would like to workout together, and is less expensive than Private Sessions. It is helpful if both workout partners have similar experience with Pilates as well as similar fitness goals. We encourage you to choose your own workout partner or come in with a friend if possible.
What our clients say!
“I look forward to my Pilates workouts! I leave feeling stronger, taller and leaner and it’s a great way to jump start my metabolism. Thanks for continually pushing me.”
“I can’t say enough good things about Spirit of Pilates. Heidi is an excellent instructor, with a wealth of knowledge of Pilates exercises, body movement and spiritual enrichment. Even after many years of classes with Heidi, I still learn so much. I truly believe that my posture, health and mental well-being have benefitted greatly. Thank you SOP!”
“I didn’t think I could afford Pilates. That was before I turned 40, and before I took an honest look at what I was spending on doctors and physical therapists for my ongoing list of sports injuries. It was then that I realized that any way I cut it, I was paying somebody, and I might as well pay somebody to prevent injuries, rather than treat them. Pilates has helped me to strengthen not only my core, but my knees, hips, arms, shoulders—all of my injury-prone extremities.”
“This year on my annual weeklong XC ski trip I realized how much stronger I was over past years. After a long day skiing I was still energized and ready to go the next day. Even my friends commented on how much stronger I skied. THANKS Pilates”
